Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play

What happens to pop culture after the fall of human civilization? What about 7 years after the fall? Or even 75 years? Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play, endeavors to find out. After nuclear power plants across the country begin to experience meltdowns, a small group of survivors gather in the woods and try to recount an episode of The Simpsons. Over the course of the play’s three acts and three-quarters of a century timespan, casual storytelling evolves into theater, theater evolves into ritual, and one Simpsons episode evolves into a myth and legend for a post-apocalyptic world.

Starring Keara Barnes, Graham Coffeng, Douglas Ennenberg, Stephanie Izsak, Elizabeth Kirkland Jackman, CJ McGillivray, and Matthew Montgomery

Directed by Madelyn Osborne, Music composed and directed by Katerina Gimon, stage managed by Diana Bartosh, lighting design by Jono Kim, set design by Heipo Leung, set construction by Andrew Duffy, costumes by Melicia Zaini, props by Caitlin Main, sound by Matt Clarke, masks designed and built by Sarah Elizabeth

“Anne Washburn’s hypnotic, sly and fiendishly insinuating Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play … does the improbable: It makes the end of civilization seem like the perfect time to create glowing objects of wonder and beauty.” —Time Out New York
